Put a resistor, which will be heated like chip, you have long advised (2,5 Ohm 30 W or auto lamp to pick up the charging current of 3-4 A). And if you want to do something smart, you should add automatic switch off at 14.5 V and protection against reverse polarity of the battery (relay with diode). To the capacitor 100mk*450V add another one of the same, in the network wires – limiting resistors (wire).

Some of them involve the use of complex mechanisms, such as pulsed circuits with circuit breakers, others, on the contrary, are extremely simple, and do not require deep knowledge in the field of radio engineering.

You can almost always find parts of electrical appliances at home that are used to collect the charge. For example, you can use a computer power supply disconnected from the device. It is enough to connect it to the battery with two meter wires, which should be shorted together, forming a jumper. As a source of voltage you can also use a charger from other gadgets, which has an output voltage of 12 V.

The second way is to use a rectifier diode with a reverse voltage of over 1000 V and a current of over 3 A. The main thing is to observe the sequence of connecting parts so that the device does not short-circuit. So the plus side of the diode should be connected to the limiting load, which can be an ordinary 220W light bulb.

Keep in mind the dangers of charging the battery directly from AC power, so this method should be used only in emergencies.

Extreme method of charging the battery involves the use of a power outlet. Therefore, it is worth resorting to it only in extreme cases, when there is no power supply unit on hand, which would meet all the requirements.

For the charger you need to prepare:

  1. A 100 W light bulb (3 lamps connected in series can be used at once to shorten the charging period).
  2. A rectifier diode, which is in every energy-saving bulb.

Before you connect all the elements, it is recommended to de-energize the room.

As when using a PSU from a gadget, this method involves the observance of polarity. During connection, it is necessary to adhere to the following algorithm:

  1. “Plus” of the socket connect to the bulb.
  2. Connect the diode, which should contact the “plus” of the battery.
  3. Connect the “minuses” of the socket and the battery with each other.

Instead of the lamp, some drivers prefer to use an electric stove at minimum power. But such a replacement is not safe.

How to convert a power supply into a battery charger

Using a PSU from a computer, as the main link of a homemade charger is much safer than a direct connection to the household network.

Necessary materials and tools

To assemble a home-made device you need to prepare:

  1. PSU on a TL494 or KA7500 chip, disconnected from a stationary computer.
  2. A multimeter.
  3. A soldering iron.
  4. Two wires of different colors of 1 meter each.
  5. Cutter.
  6. Phillips head screwdriver and flat head screwdriver.
  7. Clips, or so-called “crocodiles”.
  8. LED element.
  9. Two 25V capacitor cells.
  10. Resistors rated 2.7 and 1 kohm, 200, 68 and 0.47 ohms.
  11. Diodes (2-3 pcs).
  12. Relay with 4 terminals
  13. Silicon sealant

These elements will be enough for assembling charger which can bring the battery back to life in a few hours.

Instructions for making at home

To assemble a battery charger, you need to clearly follow the algorithm. It consists of the following steps:

  1. Open the system unit by removing the cover, which is usually fastened with 4 bolts.
  2. Desolder the 220/110V switch and any wires that come off of it. This will protect the unit from a power surge.
  3. Remove all wires coming off the chip, except for the yellow and black bundles and one green wire.
  4. Replace the two capacitor cells on the yellow wire with new 25V capacitor cells.
  5. Remove the surge protection, this will help avoid a shutdown if the voltage rises to 14.4V.
  6. Deactivate the surge protection by shorting the 3 optocouplers.
  7. Increase the output voltage to the required value, using the TL431 optional board, which has a trim resistor element. Replace it. The resistance of the new part must be at least 2,7 kOhm.
  8. Remove the transistor element next to the board.
  9. Stabilize the output voltage by connecting a second resistor with a working resistance value of 200 ohms, at 2 watts. The resistor, which is installed on the additional channel, should be 68 ohms and 0.5 W, respectively.
  10. Limit the output current to 8 A by unsoldering the old resistor and replacing it with a new 0.47 ohm resistor.
  11. Install an additional circuit in the device consisting of a relay, diode components, a 1 kOhm resistor, and an LED. If the last element lights up, then the circuit is connected correctly.
  12. Secure the relay to the unit fan with sealant or bolts.
  13. Mount the multimeter in the charger by connecting it in parallel to the circuit.
  14. Make two holes in the charger case for the nylon ties. These will be used to secure the wires to the unit.
  15. Connect the wires by observing the polarity. Connect to the battery using alligator clips.
  16. Check the functionality of the assembled device.

The process consists of a fairly large number of steps, the execution of which requires at least a basic knowledge of radio engineering.
