How to obtain the category CE and what you need for training
There are five main categories that permit you to drive various types of vehicles. In addition, there are several subsets of permits, as well as additional categories. If a driver’s license will be marked with the letter “C”, then its owner is allowed to drive a truck with a maximum weight of up to 7 tons. It is also allowed to use a trailer, with a maximum weight limit of 750 kg. To use a trailer without a weight limit, one would need to obtain an additional subtype CE.
How to get a CE license
Drivers trained for the category CE should remember that it gives the right to drive trucks of medium gravity and heavy vehicles, driving a passenger car is not provided. You must meet the following requirements before you may drive a vehicle in the Category C program:
- The student must be at least 17 years old, but at the time of issuance of the license he must have reached the age of majority.
- It is necessary to pass a medical commission and receive a document in which there are no contraindications to driving.
- It is required to pass the training in a driving school, which consists of practical and theoretical parts.
- After successfully passing the examinations, the student will receive the corresponding certificate.
It will be possible to be enrolled for CE retraining not earlier than in 12 months.
Age and absence of medical contraindications
Those who are 19 years and older can get a CE mark on their driving license. Another obligatory condition is to pass a full medical examination. Upon completion of the commission, the future driver will receive a certificate, which will be a pass to the exams. You can learn how to receive the category CE by enrolling in preparation at the nearest driving school. After successful completion of the medical examination, the student takes a course of training and prepares for the exams. The list of exams consists of a theoretical part, driving on the test track, and city driving. Drivers may eventually be referred for a new medical exam. This allows them to determine their state of health and assess whether other road users and pedestrians can feel safe. It will be helpful to check with the medical facility staff to determine the length of time the document has been issued. After a certain period of time, a new examination will be required, otherwise driving will be considered a serious impairment.
Motorists who want to get the right to drive trucks with a weight of 3.5 to 7.5 tons are probably wondering how much the training for the CE subspecies will cost. One month of theoretical and practical driving lessons is estimated from 16,000 to 24,000 rubles. The cost usually includes the following:
- Theoretical lessons, an average of about 16 hours.
- Fuel costs.
- Practical driving lessons, about 24 hours on average.
- Taking an exam in a driving school.
- Documenting and registering for the traffic police.
An important point is the choice of a driving school. To begin with, you can find out the reviews of students who have previously been trained. A good school must have its own airfields and new cars in good technical condition. Many driving schools offer training with payment in installments.
The procedure for opening a CE category should proceed in a standard way. After enrolling in a driving school, the driver begins training, which includes a theoretical and practical part. During the training course, it will be necessary to master the rules of the road, as well as the basic part of the theory of driving trucks with a trailer. Some drivers are wondering how to get their CE license quickly. Much will depend on the choice of driving school. On average the training takes from 1 to 2 months. Theoretical classes are held 1 or 2 times a week. Practical training may be on an individual schedule, but you may be required to spend around 25 hours on the road. Graduates of driving schools are allowed to pass the exams at the traffic police. The theoretical part of testing includes questions on examination tickets, and the practical part requires 4 exercises on the airfield. If a student fails the theory test, he will be allowed to retake it in a week, but if he still fails the test on more than two questions, he will be allowed to retake it not earlier than in 30 days.
Passing the exams at the traffic police and on the driving range
To open the category CE you will need to pass a training course, after which the student is allowed to pass the exams. You can make no more than 2 mistakes in theory. You have to pass the practical part of the exam on the driving range. It is required to perform the following types of exercises:
- Clutching as well as unhooking the trailer.
- Parallel parking.
- Reverse entry and maneuvering in reverse.
- Pulling over safely, maneuvering in a confined space.
The practical part of the exam also requires driving in urban conditions. In this case, the traffic police inspector may check the passage of regulated and unregulated intersections, shifting on the road section with 2 or more lanes, turning outside the intersection, leading or overtaking, crosswalks, braking at different speeds and more.
Driver’s License Replacement
A driver’s license has its own term, and it is 10 years. When it expires, the document must be re-issued at the traffic police. If he uses an expired license, the driver will have to pay a fine from 5,000 to 15,000 rubles. He also risks losing his vehicle until he gets a new one. If a driver’s license has expired, it will need to be replaced. To do this, it is necessary to gather a package of documents and pay the state duty, the average amount of which is 2,000 rubles. You may apply for a new license not only through the traffic police, but also through “Gosusluzhd” or ICF. After the documents are reviewed, the applicant will be issued a new license or will receive a reasoned refusal. The latter usually occurs due to mistakes in the documents or a forged medical certificate. When replacing the driver’s license, the existing categories are automatically transferred to the new document.
The license with the lettering CE can be obtained by both beginners and experienced drivers. The main condition is the availability of category E and driving experience of not less than 1 year. Equally important conditions are the age of 19 years and the absence of medical contraindications. In general, you may notice that the rules for obtaining the subtype CE have become a bit more complicated in the recent years. The novelties are connected with the requirements of the International Convention on Road Traffic and Road Safety.
CE and C1E – license category for a truck with a trailer
The changes to the Russian laws “About the admission to drive a vehicle” greatly affected the pockets of future drivers. Now it is necessary to study for each of them, to get DV, and only in a year to pass the exam in the traffic police. A truck with a trailer or a lorry
is not an exception, it is necessary to receive the license of CE and C1E categories. But there is no essential difference in them, and it will be more rational to study for CE at once to open C1E automatically, because their cost is the same.
CE and C1E in the driving license: what is it and what is the difference
The category C and C1 allow one to drive trucks over 3.5 tons with a trailer up to 0.75 tons. The difference is that with subcategory “C1”, the maximum weight of a vehicle cannot be more than 7.5 tons. The “C” has no such restriction.
Accordingly, the categories CE and C1E have similar differences:
- CE – allows you to drive trucks with a trailer having a permissible maximum weight greater than 750 kg;
- C1E – allows you to drive trucks with a trailer with a permissible gross weight of more than 750 kilograms, from 3.5 to 7.5 tons. Herewith the weight of a road train must be less than 12000 kilograms, and a trailer must weigh less than a vehicle in unloaded condition.
How to get a license of CE or C1E category
If your old driver’s license had a category E and C, when you change it, the license automatically opens C1E as well as CE. Future drivers, however, will need to be trained in a driving school, and pass the exam at the traffic police.
Age and lack of medical contraindications
The candidate for drivers must be at least 19 years old. This is due to the fact that you can open the category CE (C1E) only in a year after obtaining a driver’s license for a truck. Accordingly, the trainee must have at least 12 months of driving experience. The candidate for the driver’s license must have no medical contraindications, which must be confirmed by a medical certificate.
The cost of
Many people wonder how much the training costs. Contrary to expectations, training on a light truck with a trailer (C1E) is not cheaper than the SE category. The cost is exactly the same. The average price in Russia is 20,000 rubles.
Training of drivers for the CE category includes a theoretical course. It consists of:
- Rules of the Road. The lion’s share is devoted to self-training, as a student must know traffic regulations;
- First aid on the road;
- Maintenance, structure and basics of driving a truck with a trailer.
After theory is taught practice on a specially designated area (autodrome). There the trainee will get practical skills of driving vehicles of SE category and get acquainted with the exercises that await him/her at the exam in the traffic police.
In total, the period of training for the CE and C1E driving licenses takes 1-1.5 months, and after that the trainee will be admitted to the exam at the State Traffic Police.
Passing exams at the traffic police and on the driving range
Testing of theoretical knowledge
The examinee must answer 20 questions on the ticket. Theoretically, he can make two mistakes on the ticket. For each, you have to solve five more questions, this time without mistakes. If you successfully pass the test for the category CE or C1E in the license, the student is allowed to the second stage.
Motor Show Examination
Recently, the number of exercises for driving vehicles with heavy trailers has been expanded. To have your CE (C1E) driver’s license issued you now have to take your driving test on the racetrack:
- Demonstrate the ability to hitch and unhitch a trailer with a truck;
- Driving and reversing;
- Driving “backwards” into a garage;
- Maneuvering in a confined space: a stop for passengers (there will be a “crossroads” at 90 degrees, after passing which you must stop no farther than 1 meter from the curb, while not driving over the stop line);
- Parking on the loading ramp. You need to park in reverse so that no more than 1.5 meters remain to the loading platform (the exercise is similar to parallel parking on a “passenger car”).
Exam in the city
There should not be any difficulties. To open a Category CE driver’s license you need to drive through the city with active vehicular traffic, following the same rules as for trucks and buses. In this case, the duration of the route can last up to 30 minutes.
If you don’t pass any part of the exam, the examinee is not allowed to the next stage. You may retake the exercises or tickets not earlier than 7 days later.
We can see how complicated the rules for getting a driver’s license with a category C1E or CE for trucks with a trailer became. We would like to believe that this was done to ensure road safety, but alas, they were introduced based on the requirements of the Convention on Road Traffic. This has made life much more difficult for ordinary motorists, but such are the realities, the struggle against which is like fighting windmills.
