How to easily remake the signal lights under the LEDs?
The idea of their own hands to design a turn signal relay for LEDs, sooner or later visits the majority of motorists. It’s not even that outdated devices quite often break down. It’s just that LEDs give a lot more options when indicating turns, and refinement – a fairly simple task even for the novice motorist.
Replacing conventional bulbs can lead to several problems, one of which is flashing too fast. This means that the characteristics of the “native” relay are not designed to work with LEDs, and it functions in emergency mode.
Although the installation of LEDs for designating turns has its own disadvantages (changing the angle of dispersion, overly abrupt switching, etc.), such schemes have many advantages.
LED turn signals on domestic cars
Traditionally, in GAZ and VAZ cars, the relay can be found on the engine panel, located behind the dashboard. The device can be analog (231.3747) or digital (494.3747). They are noticeably different in size and can be distinguished by eye, but the relays are usually marked. The modification is possible only for the digital variant, so you need to buy it in case of need.
The first thing to do is to open the case. To do this, you need to pry open the latches on both sides of the cover with a flat screwdriver.
The relay is disassembled and the required chip (Fig. 1).
Further you can try several ways.
- To break the track on the circuit board (just cut out a part of it with a blade or a penknife). This area should be better insulated with manicure varnish or any other compound to make it safer. The binding goes to channel 7. It is also true for the relays 495.3747. 494.3787…, as well as virtually any other microchip based relay. The circuit modification for LEDs on them goes the same way. The only catch is to correctly identify the required channel, its location varies from board to board.
- The next method has one disadvantage – no indication of LEDs burning out when marking turns (they are quite reliable, so it’s not a big deal). In Fig. 1. the capacitor, which is responsible for the frequency of the oscillator, is highlighted in green, this is where the modification is applied. To make the LEDs not blink and work more smoothly, this frequency needs to be halved, which means doubling the capacitor’s capacity (4.7 uF at 50V or just add another one with the original rating).
- Installing additional resistors in parallel with the LEDs will also help to solve the problem. The only catch is to correctly size them so that the resistance simulates the lamp load. On average, the rating of the resistors is chosen from a range of 2-2.5 kOhm. Remaking is much easier if you have special equipment, but the value of resistance can be picked up and experimentally.
- You can also solder LEDs in series. A load of 5 lights should be enough to open the circuit. Such circuits for turns are quite common.
Turn signal relay with your own hands
Revision of the turn signal relay is a fascinating task, but quite time-consuming. Sometimes it is much easier to assemble a new one, because only 3 parts are needed in total. The main thing is that the connectors agree.
At the nearest radio market you need to buy:
- A sufficiently powerful field-effect transistor;
- resistor;
- a flashing LED (red LEDs show the best results).
Buying all 3 elements will only cost a couple of dollars.
The components are soldered “head-on” using hinged mounting.
Naturally, in the light of day, the power of a single diode is clearly not enough. Such a turn relay circuit can be used to set the flicker frequency. That is, the turn signal relay is replaced completely, and the turn signal itself will blink.
Turn signals for imported cars
For the most part, foreign manufacturers have long ago abandoned the use of turn signals on conventional lamps. Therefore, modification of the turn signals for the LED required only if its replacement, or if it is planned to change the principle of the device.
Recently, the use of “American” scheme of turn signal relays is becoming increasingly popular. It does not have the usual orange color, and the LEDs glow red during the stop, and at the indication of the U-turn.
Many people do not like this redesign of the signal lighting, but after looking closely, you can find such a system in action on one of the city’s traffic lights.
Insert the LEDs in the turn signal or change the principle of the existing relay is not such a difficult task. Revision of the scheme or create a new one does not require much effort and time, but the car will be prepared for all traffic situations.
Improvement of turn signal relay for LEDs

LEDs are now installed everywhere and not many people know that the installation of LEDs in the turn signals VAZ 2110 will have problems with blinking. The turn signals will start signaling much faster. Why this happens and how to fix it further …
First, you need to understand how the turn signal relay ten (relay number 3 in the fuse box), and many other cars too … Speaking in simple words: When the light bulb in the turn signals work, the relay plate heats up because of the resistance of the bulb and opens the circuit. When the bulb burns out, it runs out of resistance, the heat is not transmitted, the circuit does not open, and as a result the blinks frequently.
Stories from our readers
“Fucking pelvis. “
Hi all! My name is Michael, now I will tell you a story about how I managed to exchange a twelve year old for a camry 2010. It all started with the fact that I became wildly annoyed with breakdowns duvenka, like nothing serious is broken, but the little things, man, so much that really began to piss me off. That’s when the idea arose that it was time to change the car for a foreign car. The choice fell on a Toyota Camry from the 10s.
Yes, mentally I was ready, but financially I could not pull it off. I should say right away that I am against loans and taking a car, especially not a new one, on credit is unreasonable. My monthly salary is 24k, thus it is unreal to me to collect 600-700k. I started to search for different ways to earn money online. I tried different kinds of tricks: sports betting, network marketing and even casino Vulcan, where I lost about 10 thousand dollars (because the only direction where I could earn money was currency trading, it was called Forex). But when I started to get into details, I understood that it was too difficult for me. I kept digging and came across binary options. The idea was the same as in Forex, but it was much easier to understand. I started reading forums and studying traders’ strategies. I tried it on a demo account, then I opened a real account. To be honest, I managed to start earning not right away, while I understood all the mechanics of options, I poured out about 3,000 rubles, but as it turned out, it was a valuable experience. Now I earn 5-7 thousand rubles per day. I managed to buy a car in half a year but I think it was a good result and it was not the car. My life has changed, of course I quit my job and I have more free time for myself and my family. You will laugh, but I work directly on the phone)) If you want to change your life as I did, here is what I advise you to do right now: 1. register on the site 2. train on a demo account (it’s free). 3. As soon as you get something on the demo account, fund a real account, and go, to the REAL MONEY! I also advise you to download the application on your phone, from your phone is much more convenient to work. Download here.
That is, when the turn signals blink quickly – it’s a signal to us that it’s time to replace the bulb.
Exactly the same situation happens with frequent blinking when you put LEDs in the turn signals instead of bulbs. Because the relay does not have enough resistance, it is in emergency mode.
The same problem appears after replacing the parking lights with diodes. The relay is also to blame.
This problem can be solved in different ways, I will tell you in order:
Installing an additional resistor in the turn signal relay
To cheat the relay, you can solder parallel to the LEDs resistor (chosen experimentally, about 2.2 kOhm). So this resistor will simulate lamp load.
You can do in a simple way (we can even say “kolhozno”) is simply connect a standard lamp in parallel with the LEDs Disadvantages are heating of the resistors, incandescent lamps will shine a little worse.
Increasing the capacitance
To cure frequent blinking turns with LEDs installed, you can replace the capacitor in the turn signal relay. We unsolder the old capacitor and solder the new one in its place. Be careful with the polarity, do not mix it up! That is, if you increase the capacitor capacity by 2 times you will make the blinking 2 times less frequent.
If you can not find a capacitor of higher capacity, you can find the same capacitor and solder it as a second capacitor Disadvantages – “Estonian” alarm (it will blink slowly
)
LEDs soldered in series
Some say that if you soldered in series in the turn signal 5 LEDs, their load should be enough to open the circuit. If anyone has tried it and it works, let them confirm.
Open the circuit in the turn signal relay
You can do this in a very simple way. Just open the circuit on the turn signal relay board. That is, the relay will work with both regular lamps and LEDs. Minus this approach – the relay will no longer tell you that you have a blown turn signal.
Buy a ready-made turn signal relay for LEDs
Buy alternative turn indicator relay for the ten, which is made specifically for LEDs. You can order for example on the website 12v.ru.
