OEM multimedia VW Polo Liftback 2021
Also shows spontaneous disconnection of the rear speakers, but this is more likely a bug of the head unit.
Adding a full-fledged usb input to the OEM rcd-30. | club volkswagen polo sedan
After reading on other forums about adding to the RCD-30 full-fledged USB connector, I decided to make myself. First of all I want to say that warranty will be destroyed but if it doesn’t scare me then read on. Here is what came out of it. The other day came to the store and bought something that was available (where the price is not written there is not bought at home, believe me everything is worth a penny): all SMD-c must have the size 0603 1. The ceramic capacitor smd 0,1 uF – 2 pcs. 2. 10kOhm smd resistor – 2 pcs (they sell 50 pcs – 25r) 3. Resistor smd 0kOhm – 3 pcs. 4. Electrolytic capacitor 100μF x 10V – 2 pcs. 5. Micro assembly IRF7307 (20p) ATTENTION! [For those who can afford to buy microcircuits (RT9711A or TPS2051B) which can be soldered in without turning out the legs, post 43 below.] USB connector on a wire I did not buy (was), cord extender will buy later, since I haven’t made a hole in the glove compartment, also later.
Let’s start with removing the frame around the radio (not my photo borrowed on the internet), I poddeval plastic wedge (similar to a huge flat screwdriver) unscrew the four screws (torso 20) cut the seals on both sides
After removing top cover unscrew 4 screws and take out CD drive carefully. The first (top) the main and second (bottom) there is only one element to solder.
About Volkswagen: – Installation of all types of car air conditioners on any brand of car prices from 33.500 rubles for cars and from 52.000 for trucks, vans, microbuses
Soldering iron for particularly delicate work I had not, so unscrewed a winding of thick copper wire on a sting 40-watt wire (soldering solely). This is how the circuit should look like, to be able to disconnect the power from the flash drive and remove it safely. Here’s how the result of remaking looks like. Our work in the following order: 1. we prepare microcircuit, bend legs 2,4,7,8. We cut off the leg 5 because it is not needed. We solder the microcircuit behind the legs 1,3,6. Pins 2, 4, 7, 8 are hanging in the air. 2. We solder the ceramic on the places C515 and C516. 3. Between C516 and terminal 4 microcircuit solder 10kOhm, as there is no place for it, then one end is hung up on a capacitor, and the second will hang in the air, then fix the jumper to a leg of the microcircuit. 4. 4. Connect the jumper to the pins 4,7,8 and to the 10 kOhm resistor soldered in before. 5. Connect the isolated jumper between the leg 2 of the microassembly and the resistor R212, as on the photo. 6. Replace R212 (33 Ohm) with 10kOhm 7. We solder the zero resistors on pos. L500, L501 and on the position R25 (the second part of the work). 8. We solder the electrolytes C500 and C501. Electrolytes have the polarity. 9. Solder the USB cable to the board. When soldering the USB cable, it is better to be guided by the color of the wires.
5V….D ….D-…GND Red. Green. Green. Black. 10. Wipe the work area with alcohol and enjoy the work done.
Replacing and “protecting components”
With the introduction of the policy of “component protection” a few years ago, replacing the original car stereo has become a problem. Even the exact same one from another car will have to be installed at a service authorized by VAG and, of course, not for free. At that, numbers of parts and VIN number of the car it was taken from will be shown. And if this number will appear in the stolen cars database, etc., you will have to listen to a lot of unpleasant questions instead of music.
This protection applies not only to multimedia, such units are about / – 20 in the models of WAG. Officially, the “component protection” is designed to prevent stealing “to disassemble”, but it creates almost more unnecessary complications, than its benefit.
About Volkswagen: Knocking of front suspension of VW Golf 4 (Any bump or pothole gives back a thump in the interior)
It is clear that ways to break this protection have already found, one of them is to “fix” EEPROM.txt file, the firmware will also need a new, but for this work need experts, respectively, the price of services will be considerable.
It will be impossible to officially connect non-standard multimedia, VAG servers simply will not accept such a request, therefore, normal integration of “someone else’s” music with other car systems will be impossible.
Connecting
With this point everything is confusing and depends a lot on the phone model. In one case everything happens at once, in another you will have to dance with tambourine in the form of getting root rights with the subsequent kamlany around the connection, in the third case there is nothing.
Bluetooth connection is unstable, for example, if you were playing music from the phone and received a call, then, after hanging up, the music resumes in the phone, with the GU it must reconnect.
One of the instructions for the connection. The links are not very useful, because the 4PDA forum is on the RKN list, and the admins are tearing down everything you can get your hands on.
Also a special adapter will probably come in handy.
Problems, bugs and glitches
Reading the reviews, sometimes it seems that the boombox is able to glitch from literally any driver action or event with the car. Masterpiece was freezing stereo from water on the windshield (from the outside, of course) from the oncoming Gazelle. True, it revived by itself after the engine restart.
In another case, after starting the engine with a key, the music stopped responding to the steering wheel controls, but still works. The driver turned the car off and took out the key – the stereo works. Got out of the car, put it on the alarm – the stereo still works!
After restarting the car the multimedia system rebooted on its own and returned to normal operation.
Many owners of any way does not want to play video files from a flash drive, although the documentation for the car claims that the video should work and leads to a list of allowed formats. VW on this issue sends to the dealers, and they refer to the problems with the Germans. As a result, it does not work.
Some copies refuse to work at subzero temperatures, coming alive as the interior warms up, this problem is rather massive and is actively discussed on forums and groups of floorbuilders.
Another common defect – hanging when trying to call or receive a call via bluetooth. In this case, the sound disappears completely, and the radio stops responding to the touch buttons. After some time, itself is restored.
Removing the boombox and pinout
The removal itself is not a problem:
This is what the boombox connector looks like (tried to “run” sound to the rear speakers, but couldn’t even find the wires).
That is, if you want to install sound in the back, you have to do everything yourself, but the place in the rear doors for speakers and squeakers seems to be there.
OEM multimedia
As such, the Volkswagen Polo has the Composition audio system. Depending on the equipment level, it can be equipped with:
- in the first 3 configurations – 6.5″ screen and 4 speakers;
- in the top version – 8″ screen and 6 speakers.
Functionality is not particularly diverse, among other things there is:
- Calls and file playback via bluetooth;
- App-Connect;
- Support for media playback from SD-cards.
Results and conclusions
In general, with the Volkswagen Polo boombox with a high degree of probability, the owners will not have to get bored. It regularly throws up a variety of problems, sometimes at all fantastic, living its own life. The only consolation is that the most part of problems is solved by itself.
Volkswagen Polo radio: you will not be bored with it
In a budget car, and Polo is no exception, multimedia is a fruit of the cruelest compromises, on the one hand, to give the consumer more, on the other hand, to reduce the product as much as possible.
Original radio of the most available VW did not avoid a similar fate and, judging by the reviews of the first owners, it is extremely “raw”, first of all in terms of software, the product turned out.
The list of possible problems is vast and varied, from dropping out of some functions up to total freezing of “music” but practically all of them go away by themselves after reconnection, reloading or after a few hours of parking.
True, the dampness of the software has a flip side – some lucky few manage to connect to the phone the first time, watch video on the go (usually this feature is blocked) and bewilder what others are complaining about, they have everything works perfectly.
Many owners believe that the glitches and bugs will fix updated firmware, but when it will be, no one knows.

Speakers .
There are two groups of complaints:
- Inaudible low frequencies at sub-zero temperatures, until the cabin is warmed up. And official dealers do not consider it a failure, writing off the problem to the “features of the model”, but in other WAG models it is not so pronounced.
- The limitation of power, so much so that some owners have suspected the installation of a limiter: there, where the sound should grow, it remains at the same level. Most likely, the problem is a complex economy, not only in the speakers, but also in the wiring, capacitors, etc.
