Replacing front brake pads VAG 6RU 698 151 A
Hello comrades from our favorite site Drive2 ! I took a very long time ago to replace the brake pads, and then the dollar was 35 rubles:) Eh, those were the days. Car 2013 release March month. took off the wheel and looked. I have a caliper PR-1ZE, where they put pads without brackets, on calipers inscription – VW AG. So I fit the front brake pads VAG 6RU 698 151 A. Analogues are not even considered, I do not know good. In the box there are two inner pads with the number 6RF 615 109 D and two outer 6RF 615 115 D, 4 brackets and the same 4 bolts.
To see if it is time to change the pads, you will also need to look at the inner pads, because they are more worn.To change the front brake pads on the Polo Sedan, you will need a 12 mm ring spanner and a flat head screwdriver.
All the photos of the process from start to finish, I did not make, so some of the photos will be taken from the internet. To begin with we need to remove the wheel, ring spanner 12 unscrew the lower bolt that secures the caliper to the guide pin, the upper is also better to loosen. Insert a flat screwdriver between the pad and the wheel piston and lightly push the piston into the cylinder.
Then use a screwdriver to pry off the sleeve caps that cover the pins and carefully remove the caps.
First unscrew the lower caliper pin and take it out.
Then take out the second caliper pin as well. The instructions say to inspect the condition of both the bushing guards and the pins themselves. If there is damage, the parts need to be replaced. My condition was good, I did not change any of the above.
Remove the brake caliper, take out the outer and inner pads.
Then remove the inner pad, overcoming the resistance of the spring detent in the cavity of the mechanism.
In no case do not press on the brake pedal. Otherwise, the piston will fly out of the caliper and you will have to go to the service for reinstallation.
In order not to skew the piston and not to damage the cuff, press the piston into the brake cylinder.
Then do everything in reverse order: -Insert the new pads into the caliper and release the piston. -Put the protective caps back on the pins. -Mount the wheels in place and tighten them with the bolts. -Depress the brake pedal several times to make sure the pads are centered and in line with the discs. Also check the level of brake fluid. But I immediately changed the brake fluid along with the pads.
Below is the condition of the old pads. You can see that the inside has worn down a lot:
To increase the effectiveness of the braking system, the pads should be “warmed up”. This is done by running the car up to 80 km/h and lightly depressing the pedal to 40 km/h. Carry out the procedure several times, with short pauses between “warming up”. If you brake too intensely, the surface of the disks may be formed on the fouling, which will adversely affect the work of the pads. About 200 km must be driven for the new devices to be able to work in well.

Changing the front brake pads on a Volkswagen Polo sedan
What Russian does not like to drive fast? High speed, impetuous maneuvers when changing lanes, the desire to “cut someone off” and boast about their “skill” at driving, an extreme degree of disrespect on the road towards other traffic participants – all these become the hallmarks of our nation from other cultures. Try to overclock on a European highway: the fine will come such that you do not want to “drive” anymore.
The problem of “grabby” driving is also complicated by the fact that many “reckless drivers” don’t watch the condition of certain assemblies of a car, exposing more danger to themselves and people around. Ok, if the engine oil is not changed or antifreeze is not “blown” – the car will simply stand in a moment and that’s all. But it’s no fun with brakes.
The brake system is the major component of a car, which should be carefully maintained, if not by the driver, then at least by the service center specialists. After all, even an ordinary air leak in the system may cause deterioration of the brake pedal and, as a consequence, the emergence of an emergency situation.
One of the important components of the braking system on the Volkswagen Polo sedan is the front pads. These simple devices are the guarantor of reliable braking on the road.
Like any other component, they tend to wear out. There is no certain replacement interval for the pads. But experienced Polo sedan motorists usually change them about every 30,000 km. If there is discomfort caused by a decrease in braking efficiency, you should definitely check the thickness of the friction pads. If it is less than 2 mm, then such pads can be safely thrown out and put new ones.
Deterioration of braking may also be due to poor interaction of the pads with the metal surface of the disks. In addition, when inspecting the mechanism, you need to pay attention to the pads themselves: whether they have oil stains, scratches, chips or ribs.
Selecting Brake Pads
The front pads on the Polo sedan, as well as the rear, are replaced only a set of four components: two for each disc. Even if one of the brakes is still quite serviceable, it still needs to be replaced. If you replace only one side, the car can lose stability on the road during braking and go into a skid.
Brake pads are a product that is always in demand among motorists as a frequently purchased consumable. The market is simply replete with a unique variety of types and brands of mechanisms from various manufacturers. Therefore, in order not to sit in a puddle when buying “consumables” and not to buy fake products, you need to understand exactly what pads are suitable for the car.
On the sedan Volkswagen Polo is recommended to buy the original, manufactured by the manufacturer. Here, it all depends on the type of configuration.
Front pads with two numbers 6ru698151 or 6ru698151a are available for the 1ze package. These units are usually installed on sedans produced since 2012. The original pads are made in India. Their cost starts from 3300 rubles.
If VAG is too expensive, you can buy an analogue from the German company Textar with the number 2568101. This is a quality sample, which you can buy at a price of 2200 rubles.
The cheapest option for replacement – Korean pads from the company Sangsin. The cost goes from 1500 rubles.
For the set of 1zg are used originals with the code – 6r0698151a. As a rule, these pads are used on Polo, produced before 2012. Branded VAG devices are sold at a price from 2400 rubles. They are made in Italy. There are a lot of analogs. The most popular is a copy from the company ATE for 1700 rubles.
Interestingly, the originals can be exchanged for pads from other Volkswagen models. For example, on older sedans the pads from Polo hatchback or even the fourth Golf are quite suitable.
A note about a sedan’s configuration can be found either in a service book, in the pr-code field, or in a “spare part” compartment in a luggage compartment (on a sticker). The third option is to “check” in vin number of a car.
The replacement process is not as complicated as it seems. If you want to save an extra couple of thousand rubles, you can perform the procedure with your own hands without going to a service shop.
Before proceeding to the procedure of replacing the pads, you should check the level of brake fluid in the reservoir. If the tank is filled to the “MAX” mark, the fluid should be partially pumped out with a syringe or rubber bulb.
Do not use your mouth to pump it out, as the solution contains poisonous substances. If you do not dilute the solution level, it will rise considerably when new pads are installed and pour out through the throat.
Fluid leaking out of the master cylinder can damage the paint finish of the vehicle.
Front Pads Replacement Guide
To replace the pads you will need wrenches with a set of sockets, flat and Phillips screwdriver, jacks, a small wire.
Sequence of steps for replacing the front pads:
- In order not to confuse the correct position of the wheels, you should mark the direction of the tires with a marker.
- Loosen the wheel bolts.
- Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
- Use jacks to raise the front of the sedan and place it on a firm support.
- Unscrew the fixing bolts and remove the front wheel. It is important to remember here that loosening the fasteners as well as final tightening of the wheel is done only on a car that has all four wheels on the ground.
- If the sedan has a sensor that monitors pad wear, it should be disconnected by disconnecting the plug connector.
- Insert a flat screwdriver between the pad and the wheel piston and lightly push the piston into the cylinder.
Finally check the tightness of the brake hose and vent valves. To do this, start the car and hold the brake pedal for 10 seconds with a force of about 25 kg.
Finally, it should be remembered that the reliable operation of all nodes of the braking system on the Polo sedan is a guarantee of the safety of the driver, passengers and people around.
