Transmission oil change regulations for Volkswagen Jetta 6

According to the manufacturer’s recommendations, it is necessary to fill new transmission oil in transmission gearbox Jetta 6 every 50,000-100,000 km of mileage. Automatic transmission requires replacement every 65,000 km of mileage.

Bumpy roads and aggressive driving style can significantly reduce the schedule. So don’t forget to check the oil level regularly. This may cause some difficulties in models with an automatic transmission, as there is no oil dipstick.

Checking the oil level in the automatic transmission

To check the oil level, do the following:

  1. Make sure the vehicle is parked on a level surface.
  2. Remove the engine crankcase guard.
  3. Warm the transmission oil to 35 degrees.
  4. Unscrew the transmission check plug and observe how the oil flows.

A plentiful flow means the oil level is elevated. Take your time to screw in the plug. Wait for the oil to come out in a thin stream.

A thin stream means your transmission has an adequate oil level.

No flow means your transmission is critically low on oil which needs to be replenished immediately. Add fluid (a special blower pump makes it easy) through the filler neck until it flows in a thin stream from the drain hole.

  1. Screw the bolt into the test hole.
  2. Start the vehicle.
  3. Fill up the oil until a trickle comes out of the drain hole again.
  4. Tighten the bolt.
  5. Go through all the modes of the box, stopping at each for 2 seconds.
  6. Again unscrew the plug.
  7. Fill up with oil until a trickle appears.
  8. Screw in both plugs, and reinstall the crankcase shield.

ATS oil is now at normal level.

Changing the automatic transmission oil

When doing a complete oil change, it’s worth putting in a new filter and gaskets. To do this:

  1. Place the vehicle on an elevator.
  2. Remove the engine crankcase guard.
  3. Place an empty container under the oil level plug.
  4. Unscrew the oil level plug.
  5. Unscrew the plastic level tube (also with an Allen key).
  6. Wait until the old liquid has drained out completely.
  7. Unscrew the bolts securing the transmission pan.
  8. Remove the drip tray.
  9. Remove the bolts securing the filter.
  10. Remove the filter.
  11. Remove the drip tray gasket.
  12. Clean any dirt from the drip tray.
  13. Clean the outside surface of the box valve block.
  14. Install the cleaned magnets and a new gasket in the pan.
  15. Install a new filter.
  16. Install and bolt the pan in place. (It is best to use new pan mounting bolts).
  17. Screw in the level tube.
  18. Fill the oil.
  19. Lower the car.
  20. Start the engine.
  21. Shift gears, stopping in each gear for a few seconds.
  22. When oil temperature reaches 35-40 degrees, stop the engine and add oil to the correct level (according to the above instructions).
  23. Screw in a new drain plug, and install the crankcase shield.

Change transmission oil in gearbox:

  1. Warm the engine up a little.
  2. Jack up the front right side of the vehicle to drain the old fluid faster. This is because the drain hole is not located at the bottom of the box, but on the side.
  3. Remove the engine crankcase guard.
  4. Take care to have a clean container (approximately 2 liters in volume) under the drain plug.
  5. Unscrew the drain and fill plugs. This is done with a 17mm allen key.
  6. Pour in new oil. You can use a special blower. But if you bought the original liter oil, there is a very convenient neck, allowing you to pour the liquid without additional tools.
  7. Screw in both plugs.
  8. Install the protection.
