Oil change in Tiguan 1.4 turbo
After a trip to the south in August on my car, I decided to change the oil ahead of time, as the trip was in the heat of +36C, oil temperature sometimes reached 120C (coolant temperature just froze at 90C) at a speed of 120-140 km/h. The previous TO-2 was done in February with mileage of 15600 km, now 02.10.2016 mileage is 24500 km. Well, let’s begin: consumables purchased NOT at the dealer (!) at double the price, but in a proven store. By the way, VW group had some kind of rebranding and the stickers on the oil canister and oil filter box are now issued differently. The seller said don’t be scared, on the contrary, take it before they learn how to counterfeit it.
I bought a non-original Mann air filter (no photo). Of the tools we will need literally a few wrenches: a Torx head CR-V T25 for loosening the screws of plastic protection and crankcase pan protection:
A 13 head with a ratchet for loosening the 5 bolts fixing the main crankcase protection made of steel sheet. And a x19 ring spanner to unscrew the oil drain plug. Yes, by the way, I did not buy a new plug, judging by its condition I have a feeling that it was not changed last time.
I don’t see any deformation of the o-ring and no sense in replacing it. It was enough to make sure that the oil filter was in the accessible area and it was possible to unscrew it manually without any tools.
In short, we stop the car, put the parking brake on, go down to the pit and using a torx head unscrew first the plastic cover
and then the main sump protector. After that, take the head x13 and ratchet unscrew the five bolts securing the metal sheet pan protection.
Having seen an engine from below, I was a little confused – where is the drain plug hidden? Immediately I remembered the fun, told by a friend at work, as a weirdo in his garage, after he had drained the oil from the car, poured new oil and did not understand why he had a dipstick left with a double level (?) And he and say, so you probably poured from the box, and the engine poured “top” another canister of oil After a short search he found the drainage point.
The process of used oil drainage is the same as everywhere else: you prepare a container for the old oil, a funnel and slowly unscrew the cap by hand so as not to drop it into the funnel.
After the old oil is drained, unscrew the old oil filter, easy and simple.
The new one on the left, the old one on the right (they say the letters GF and FF identify the manufacturer or place of production)
We take a new canister, shake all the additives. We take out a new oil filter (membrane is not protected by anything, this is a minus of VW) and try to pour oil into it )). Nothing worked for me, tried a flat screwdriver gently pushing in different places looking for the valve to get the oil out, but to no avail. Lubricated only the ring and screwed the filter back on. Then poured oil into the filler neck just like that, without the funnel. There is an inconvenience here, because you have to pour out a thin stream, otherwise the oil will run over the edge (peculiarities of the device). * Using dipstick we control the level of filled oil. When with oil have finished – we put on a place protection of a crankcase of the engine, returning on a place all bolts and self-windows.
Start the engine, make sure that everything is OK. As a bonus, washed (with removal) his car protective plastic casing under the hood.
p.s., not without its problems )) I guess I got the car serviced on Sunday for nothing, so I pissed God off. Since the garage is a little short (in the corner of the cellar in the back), decided to move the car a little, pressed against the wall, literally gave a meter “back and forth”. Came out and saw a twisted new oil can, which miraculously did not burst. Apparently ran over with the front wheel.
What oil to fill in a Volkswagen Tiguan engine?
A common question: what oil to fill in the engine Volkswagen Tiguan bothers many car owners, in short, depending on the engine and the interval of replacement of motor oil – the tolerance of 502/505 at fixed intervals, as well as 504/507 at a flexible, so-called LONGLIFE.
Several engine modifications were installed on the cars, we will single out:
- 1.4 TSI Gasoline (BWK, CAVA) (turbocharged motor),
- 2.0 TSI Gasoline (CBAB, CBAA) (turbocharged engine),
- 2.0 TDI Diesel (CCZD).
Of course, each engine has its own volume, its own replacement technology.
Used viscosity (SAE) 0W30, 0W40, 5W30, so we recommend adhering to the data correspondence of the requirements of the manufacturer when changing the oil in the Volkswagen Tiguan. In this article we will talk about the proper selection of engine oil in the engine, the interval of change and the volume of the poured liquid.

Oil in the Volkswagen Tiguan 1.4 TSI
Oil in the engine 1.4 Tiguan is applied similar to the tolerance of the 2-liter unit, that is, according to VAG 502/505 and 504/507 (LONGLIFE) regulations.
This includes products of such giants as SHELL (Helix Ultra Series), Mobil (ESP Formula, 3000), Motul (504/507, 8100 X-Cess) and other well-known brands.
TOTAL QUARTZ INEO LONG LIFE 5W-30 is also excellent motor oil for Volkswagen Tiguan (although it is not so popular in our country, and for nothing). It is recommended by the manufacturer Volkswagen and perfectly fits into the standards VW-504/507.00. The reduced amount of sulfur-containing and heavy-metal substances prolongs the life of the engine.
What is the oil change interval?
Volkswagen Tiguan oil changes are performed annually or after every 15,000 km. We recommend shortening this interval by half, and to carry out change of working liquid in the engine once in 7.500-10.000 km, it will help to prolong service life of the unit at least twice.
The automatic transmission also requires maintenance!
In Russia and other CIS countries, there is a common misconception that the oil in the automatic transmission does not need to be changed, as it is poured for the entire period of operation of the car. And what is the service life of an automatic transmission? 100.000 kilometers? 200.000 km? Who will answer this question. All right, nobody. Dealers say one thing (“it is filled for the whole term” and the term of what – do not specify), the neighbor is another (they say he has a friend who “changed the oil in the box and it fell after that”, of course, if the problems have already begun – they are irreversible and the oil – not the solution). We want to point out that routine maintenance of automatic transmission extends life of the transmission 2 or even 3 times longer.
Most concerns do not produce automatic transmissions, and install units from world manufacturers of transmissions, such as ZF, JATCO, AISIN WARNER, GETRAG and others (in the case of concern VAG – own production is established on DSG, and the classical hydraulic automatic machines are installed in Japan – from the company AISIN). So, the accompanying notes to their units from these companies state that the oil in the automatic transmission and dsg requires replacement every 60,000 kilometers (for dry DSG7 – every 120,000 km). There are even repair kits (filter + gasket) and specialized oil, called ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). Oil level in the Volkswagen Tiguan engine
The Volkswagen Tiguan oil level is checked with a dipstick. Instructions on how to check below.
Volkswagen Tiguan oil consumption – is it present?
If you answer briefly – yes, the flow (burn) present, especially on engines 2.0 TSI and 1.4 TSI (turbo motors). Moreover, the consumption of up to 1 liter per 1,000 km is considered the norm, it is recognized by both VAG group and manufacturers (Audi, Volkswagen) separately. Certainly in real life such figures seldom reach, but you will have to add about 1 liter per 3-4 thousand km.
About the oil pressure sensor
Oil pressure sensor Volkswagen Tiguan – with a critical decrease in oil level and oil pressure on the dashboard will light up a special indicator. First of all, check the oil level by the dipstick, we talked about this above.
Changing the oil in the Volkswagen Tiguan engine
In order to qualitatively carry out an oil change in the Volkswagen Tiguan engine you will need:
- Engine oil approved for your engine’s tolerance (502/505, 504/507);
- Oil filter;
- Rags;
- Tools.
And of course minimal automotive maintenance experience. Watch videos and guides on how to do your own maintenance.
